![]() It's also difficult to appreciate the game's attempts at being sexy. Besides, who didn't enjoy reading "Choose Your Own Adventure" books when they were younger? It's not this reviewer's intention to be morbid or anything, but if there are no stakes, then there's not much of a purpose. It would have been really exciting if there was a possibility that the wrong choice could be made, and someone could possibly suffer a miserable end. Even decisions made during an intense battle don't carry much weight. The few times Mikage has a choice only determines which girl he could potentially end up with. Having decisions to make is a fine way to engage the viewer, but they need to have real consequences in order for them to mean anything. Is it necessary to know everything about this sci-fi world? Probably not, but some people like a little immersion to go with their titillation.Īs the story progresses, the viewer will face a handful of choices. It's never explained why there are goblins, demons, or giant spiders in the future. There also isn't much in the way of world building. While each character has an arc, they don't really benefit the story as a whole, so it's just something tacked on to pad the run time. Their personalities are trite and overly familiar, as if they were put together by a committee. The potential love interests don't fare any better. The protagonist is good-looking, driven, humble, and boring. The characterization is bland and predictable. However, while this game is certainly heavy on the "plot," there's very little storyline. Depending on decisions made by the player, Mikage could find himself married to the woman of his dreams. Over time, their relationship develops into something beyond friends. There might even be times where the students have to take matters into their own hands. While they undergo training, all manner of fiends are trying to wipe out civilization. Many trials stand in the way of their road to knighthood. They all have their reasons for joining the academy. ![]() PSN Store Links: £9.49/€11.99 Europe / $11.Sakura Nova is a visual novel that focuses on the exploits of Mikage, Arisa, and Kaguya. I really hope we one day see a Sakura Nova 2! I love the characters, I love their stories, even if the main characters’ story is cliché. It was weird that one ending just cuts off about 30 minutes of read time and ends abruptly, but the other two routes were exactly what I wanted. Whether it’s because I love the accompanying setting so much, or because it was well written, even if sometimes it jumps around a lot. I really enjoyed the story for this game. But with the three endings, it’s easy to figure out what ones you have and have not got just by looking at your achievements, then going from there! If there is a specific CG you like though, you can always view it in the gallery! It is nice to play a VN where your choices actually matter though for the ending you want to get. So compared to some other lewd adventures from Winged Cloud and Gamuzumi, this adventure is very tame. The worst you see is maybe the side of a breast. Though if you’ve ever played a VN, I’m sure you can figure out what the endings entailed.Īs for how sexy the game is, yes we’re talking about it. So it felt like I only got about 2/3rds of the game’s length on one route. ![]() Then as I unlocked the other two, they both went on for another 20-30 minutes each. The first one I got where I made everyone love me, just sort of ended abruptly. There’s a few sections where they are walking around town for example, but it doesn’t happen often. This made it feel even more fun for myself.īut as for the story being rushed, one second the team is training in a dungeon, then next thing you know, they’re at home eating dinner. If you don’t know those manga or anime, then I’m sorry. The game takes place in a very futuristic/fantasy setting. Though the story did feel a tiny bit rushed. But the silliness is that he wants to bring an end to how cliché it is. At one point you learn why everyone wants to be a Knight, and Mikage’s reasoning was a touch cliché. The story itself is very fun, with a few areas that get a bit serious. When Mikage wants to be a Knight, to defend the people, just like his father, he’s paired up with two ladies and his adventures begin! He meets his teammates, Arisa and Kaguya, in the most awkward way only to not have the chance to explain himself before they want to cut him in half! *Disclaimer: A code was provided to me by the publisher for the purposes of this review.
